Our accelerator programme is laser-focused on getting you investment ready and actively supports graduates with fundraising. The programme is designed for early-stage, technology-driven startups, including pre-revenue and pre-registration companies with an advanced MVP. The 12-week accelerator combines 1-2-1 mentorship, workshops, homework, and group work, including:

Unrest

Unrest is a start-up accelerator providing 16 weeks of structured support delivered by world class experts to founders and teams at purposeful, consumer-facing startups.

The Unrest North Programme is delivered in partnership with Capital Enterprise (UK) Limited and Barnsley Council, and is part-funded through the European Regional Development Fund. By supporting startups in the region, we hope to tip the scales of investment and growth, accelerating impact businesses forward.

The hybrid programme will be run in person and online from our Northern base in Sheffield, and is open to all North-England based impact consumer driven startups.

Guided by our three pillars of impact, resilience and diversity, we focus on consumer businesses because we believe in the collective power we all have in driving shifts towards a fairer inclusive economy. The programme is offered through an equity stake in your business. We ask for the lower of a 2% equity share or £33k worth of equity in your business. Through equity, we are tying our success to yours, betting on a better world together.

Sheffield Technology Parks (STP) has a remit to support and grow digital tech companies and provides managed office space and co-working facilities in central Sheffield. STP is a registered non-profit organisation, enabling us to reinvest profits into entrepreneurship programmes and economic development activities.

We believe that a thriving ecosystem comprised of public, private, and non-profit organisations is the strongest mix in which entrepreneurs will succeed. We have a longstanding history of supporting the digital tech ecosystem. We do this by putting on events, hosting meetups, and sponsoring activities such as Startup Weekend Sheffield. We are proud to be one of the support organisations that sponsored the founding of Sheffield Digital.

We also play an active role in the policy space by contributing to conversations in the public sector, whether that’s with colleagues at Business Sheffield, or at a strategic level at the City Council or Sheffield City Region.

NorthInvest

NorthInvest is a not-for-profit organisation that helps diverse tech and digital start-ups across the North of England raise angel investment and access crucial expert support to help them fulfil their potential. From day one we help entrepreneurs develop their proposition to ensure our angel investors have access to the highest-quality opportunities that the North has to offer.

Our team evaluate every proposition that meets our eligibility criteria. We then help start-ups refine their message and investor approach, providing free advice and connecting them with qualified advisers through our corporate partners should they need specialist support around legal, HR, tax, and more. We then present investor-ready propositions to our angel network and funding communities.

Bulldozer

STARTUP INVESTOR

Investments in pre-seed / seed tech startups with driven founders who get stuff done. We write cheques for £20k – £100k and prefer to have board representation and add value with biz, tech, legal, and finance strategy.

Barnsley DMC

The DMC is more than just a building, it is part of Enterprising Barnsley’s suite of business support meaning there is two ways of which the DMC can support your business whilst at home with us.

Start up support
We are home to Launchpad*, a business support service focused on supporting anyone in Barnsley to start up their own business, as well as providing fully funded support to businesses with up to 10 employees in Barnsley.

Dedicated Key Account Management Support 
For those slightly larger businesses, or expressing growth potential, being part of Enterprising Barnsley also means our residents can access support through a dedicated Key Account Manager.

How Else Do We Support Our Businesses?

As well as offering one-to-one support, the Digital Media Centre is home to a wide range of Enterprising Barnsley-funded business development workshops, seminars and events from online marketing and digital law to HR issues and tender writing.

Barclays Eagle Labs

Our network of coworking spaces, mentors and learning tools, as well as our events and growth programmes for ambitious entrepreneurs and businesses, helps the UK’s start-up community scale and succeed.

Eagle Labs provide a wealth of support to start-up businesses, particularly those who are focused on technology and innovation. For those needing physical space we provide coworking and offices throughout the UK.

For those looking for more virtual support you’ll be able to access our services and expertise remotely. Businesses can be connected to our mentors, specialists and deals that are all designed to help them grow. We also provide access to a collaborative community where businesses can be put in touch with and learn from their peers.  

Govtech Academy

The Academy is a pre-accelerator training and mentoring programme for start-ups and existing small businesses wanting to bring innovation to government by selling to the public sector.

Government is the biggest industry on earth and the public sector is 40% of the UK economy.

RIDO

RIDO’s business start-up programme offers the knowledge, tools and techniques you need to enable you to create a successful business. A series of workshops and tailored one-to-one support takes you from an idea towards developing a sustainable and profitable business.

If you are an early stage business in the first three years of life looking to grow, we’ll design a unique, innovative package of help around your needs.

Social Enterprise Exchange

Social Enterprise Exchange is a project designed to offer a comprehensive programme of support for social enterprise in Sheffield City Region. It is delivered by a community-based consortium in collaboration with Sheffield City Region Growth Hub and funded by European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020.

The Hallam i-Lab

The Hallam i-Lab is a dynamic co-working business incubation space located on the top floor (Level 6) of Aspect Court (on Pond Hill). The Hallam i-Lab offers panoramic views of the Sheffield City skyline and is a great space for networking and collaboration opportunities.

ScaleUp 360

Our vision is to inspire and empower ambitious businesses and entrepreneurs across the Sheffield City Region (SCR) to grow.

ScaleUp 360 is an exciting programme providing tailored support to entrepreneurs and start-ups with the ambition and potential to scale up their business. From pre or early start up to investment ready, we want to help your business grow.

 

All support is fully funded and includes 1-2-1 specialist business advice, mentor support, workshops and access to investment opportunities. We also offer access to dedicated entrepreneur/business incubation spaces.

The ScaleUp 360 programme is delivered by an expert partnership led by Sheffield Hallam University, with The Business Village @ BarnsleyBIC, Doncaster Chamber of Commerce and East Midlands Chamber of Commerce.

ScaleUp 360 also work with FE colleges across the region to inspire young people, develop their enterprising skills and showcase the range of support that is available across the SCR for young people wanting to start their own venture.

ScaleUp 360 is part-financed by the England European Regional Development Fund receiving up to £1,868,028 as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.

 

UoS Entrepreneurship

Through a distinct programme of activities – such as challenge-led competitions and start-up support – we are encouraging our students, staff and graduates to actively take part in solving the challenges that exist locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Launchpad

Helping individuals to start and grow their business idea with start Up support, an extensive workshop programme and 1-2-1 advice from a team of specialist Business Advisors.

Kollider Eagle Lab

We offer start-ups and scaleups a package of tailored incubation support, including one-to-one mentoring, workshops and seminars, along with funding readiness programmes. Whether you’re starting with simply an idea or you’re looking to scale your existing business, our approach to incubation is bespoke and is designed to meet you where you’re at.

TwinklHive Accelerator

TwinklHive provides start-ups with seed funding, access to services from Twinkl’s internal departments, mentorship from Twinkl CEO Jon Seaton and external partners, and residency in one of Twinkl’s Sheffield offices.

The programme is flexible and tailored to each start-up’s needs, including the investment amount, equity share, time period and extent of support provided. All TwinklHive start-ups also have access to the Hive community, a group of like-minded entrepreneurs, for sharing network connections and best practice advice.

AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator

The AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator is an R&D-focused programme that supports pre-revenue and early-stage companies* developing products or services with health and wellbeing applications that align with the AWRCs impact themes.

The programme is accessed via a competitive application process and provides the accepted cohort with a range of valuable support to help them get their innovation closer to market and/or enter new markets.

The programme does not take equity and is fully funded via University contributions and private sector sponsorship.

Based in Sheffield Hallam’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, participants have access to world-class R&D capabilities to carry out design and rapid prototyping, through to precision engineering of prototype components.

The centre also houses laboratories for proof-of-concept testing and a clinical research floor to test innovations with end-users for usability assessments or initial pilot studies to support development of the evidence base.

The AWRC also leverages its ecosystem of supportive individuals and organisations to help startup founders to grow their networks; forge new collaborations and help to secure public and private investment.

Following the defined accelerator programme, the programme team will work with the cohort to develop collaborative grant funding applications – decided on a case by case basis following our assessment of the fit to the specific call criteria.

Cooper Project

The Cooper Project, is a 6-month free residency in the Cooper Lounge open to pre-start, pre-revenue, pre-investment and early stage start-ups operating in tech and digital sectors. It is an opportunity to test an idea and develop it into a viable business, or develop your early stage business in readiness for expansion into your first office.
